Star Trek: Voyager: Elite Force asked a very important question in 2000: what if Star Trek was, in fact, Quake? Raven Software (one of our favorite FPS developers, who went on to make Jedi Outcast and the 2009 Wolfenstein) built Elite Force in iD Tech 3, aka the Quake 3 engine. The resulting game was as cool as you’d expect: a First Contact-inspired FPS with a heavy focus on phasering the Borg in the phase.
Elite Force II isn’t a Raven Software joint, but it’s still Quake in Star Trek’s clothing. But this time, instead of pulling from Voyager, it pulls from The Next Generation. Picard, Worf, and a few other crewmembers of the Enterprise E make guest appearances. The phaser rifles and Borg face-shooting remain intact.
11 years after release, iD Tech 3 still looks remarkably good, especially for Star Trek. The Borg ships glow a menacing neon green; the hallways of the Enterprise are stark and bright and don’t need fancy modern lighting to look appropriately Next Generation. With a couple tricks, Elite Force II also runs at a very crisp 3K resolution on modern Windows. Sample me down, Chief O’Brien.
Install It
Sadly, unlike most of the wonderful games featured on Pixel Boost, Elite Force II isn’t conveniently available on Steam or GOG. Blame that on Activision or Paramount or the mess of old IP rights. Maybe Elite Force will see a digital release someday. Until then, the best way to play it is to grab a used copy online. You can get one on Amazon for less than $40, or even a bit cheaper on Ebay. Just don’t accidentally buy a PS2 copy of the original Elite Force. To install the game, you’ll need a CD drive.
Play it in high resolution
Now comes the fun stuff. Elite Force II should work just fine on a modern system, but its in-game graphics settings are a bit limited. The maximum resolution, by default, is 1600x1200. After installing the game from the CDs, boot it up once, go into the video options, and crank everything up to the maximum. Make sure to click on the Advanced button to turn up the lighting, anti-aliasing, and other graphics settings to their maximums. It’s not exactly a demanding game, these days.
After saving the video settings in-game, exit and navigate to the game’s install folder. By default, it’s under Program Files (x86)/Activision/EF2. Then open the “base” folder, where you’ll be greeted by a whole bunch of config files. One of those files is named after your Windows profile. Find that config file (on the Large Pixel Collider, it’s DigitalStorm.cfg) and open it with Wordpad or your favorite HTML editor to set some custom graphics settings of your own.
At this point, there are two paths we can take. The first is simply running the game at your monitor’s native res. The second is running it at a higher resolution and downsampling, which takes about 5 minutes longer, but will give you a very sharp picture. Both paths involve adding the following settings to the config file:
Find the line that says: seta r_mode “#” and change the # to -1.
Above that line, add the following two lines:
seta r_customheight “####”
seta r_”customwidth “####”
Quick path: Fill in those two number values with your native resolution, like 1080 and 1920. The game will now render at that resolution. Save, and run the game!
Downsampling path: if you want to downsample, set customheight to 1800 and customwidth to 3200. This was the highest resolution I was able to get the game to run at; any higher and OpenGL failed to initialize.
Now, to have your computer properly downsample from that resolution, you have to do two things. One: download Durante’s GeDoSaTo downsampling too. If you have an up-to-date version, 3200x1800 is one of the default downsampling resolutions, and the app should automatically downsample to your monitor’s native res. You shouldn’t have to mess with any settings; just make sure GeDoSaTo is activated, and running in Blacklist mode.
Final step: because GeDoSaTo is DirectX based, but iD Tech runs on OpenGL, we need a .dll file that makes the two play nice together. Simply download GLDirect and extract it. Under bin/release is a file called opengl32.dll. Copy that .dll to Elite Force II’s install folder to sit alongside its .exe.
Now boot up the game. If all goes well, it’ll start up, and you’ll see a GeDoSato notification in the top-left corner that it’s downsampling from 3200x1800 to your monitor’s native res. When you get in-game, you may find the FOV is a little too pushed-in for your new high resolution. That’s easy to adjust.
Pull up the console with the ~ key, and type: fov 95.
That’ll set the FOV to 95, which is a pretty good value for 16:9. Go 100 or 105 for an even wider field of view. Time to shoot some Borg.
Mod it
In classic Quake fashion, there are plenty of mods out there for Elite Force II. Many of them are for the multiplayer, which you probably won’t be spending much time with. There is, however, a long-in-development co-op mod called the HZM Co-Op Mod that includes the complete singleplayer campaign. Give it a shot. You can also pick up some other player-made missions at ModDB.

@TOPO .. when installing, it will ask if you want to register the game. Click 'No'.
That could be what happened to you. These old win games often asked for registration as a way to get folks signed up for news letters, or install secondary programs that would spam you with marketing. Back in the 'bad old days' of Windows (98/XP), every program seemed to want to install a TSR (terminate, stay-resident) task bar program to always run and auto-update, or spam the end-user and what-not. So, when in doubt, don't register the game. These days, some third-party spammer / scammer may have gotten ahold of whatever site the registration redirects to, and they could be trying to auto-install malware. Never no. So, when in doubt, DON'T register the game.

1) download the ISO
2) download the 'install' instructions below
3) with ISO mounted, click AUTORUN instead of SETUP (for older win games, it's always safer / better to do AUTORUN, because it may kick off some prep work to get ready for the SETUP that just clicking the SETUP file might skip.)
I was able to install it + expansion fine on Win 10 x64. Hope this helps

I fixed the default.cfg error. You need to install the game on c:/ or it will give the error: 'Couldn't load default.cfg'
As long as the folder is on c:/ you will be fine :)

This is bad! It downloaded programmes to my computer that scanned and wanted me to register for other stuff. Make sure you have a good virus checked and delete everything!

Thanks for posting this game with a pre-installed version! It really helps not having to deal with pesky ISO files! :-) Mac users, this game will work with Wineskin.
Runs under Windows 7 if you select 'disable display scaling on high DPI settings' in the compatibility box otherwise the screen will run off the right side and the bottom. I ran it in Windows XP mode and as administrator although those two settings may not matter much.
I watched the series every week when it ran on TV. The game brings back lots of memories.

With top-notch Star Trek games being so aggravatingly rare, Raven Software’s Elite Force was a breath of fresh air. Short and punchy, the first-person shooter took the niche-within-a-niche and turned it into a pretty solid frag fest. Several years and one expansion pack later, a sequel was on the horizon, this time from Ritual Entertainment. Elite Force II once again features the Hazard Team lead by Alexander Munro, a rather more combat-oriented variation on the typical Federation away team. Instead of calmly reasoning with alien life forms, the Hazard Team just vaporizes them.
One aspect of the new game is adding more depth to the original’s linear shooter gameplay or heavy use of the Tricorder, that ubiquitous and mysterious Star Trek device that seems to do everything from analyzing xenomorphs to mixing martinis. Here, you’ll often face things that can’t be blown up or perforated. You can “modulate” some controls simply by “firing” the Tricorder at them. Others require more dexterous manipulations. In one type of puzzle you have to match two waveforms by modulating amplitude, frequency, and period. In another, you have to connect a circuit in a manner reminiscent of the System Shock games.
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force Free Download
Still, the game’s 11 missions, 12 environments, and 70 levels are mostly about boldly going where no one has gone before, and blowing up what you find. The weapons include the usual Trek suspects like phasers and compression rifles, plus some new toys from the Romulans, Klingons, and various other alien types. Combat retains the feel of the first Elite Force, which is either good or bad depending on how okay you are with slower-than-light-speed projectiles, and a near total absence of visceral feedback. It is all consistent with the source material, though, and quite attractive to look at in action.
Like the first game, Elite Force 2 starts deep in Borg territory. Upon boarding their sphere, your team is misplaced and you find yourself playing the rescuer. Once you make it back to Starfleet Academy, the headmaster decides to split up the hazard team and assigns each elite soldier to relatively menial duties. Eventually, Jean-Luc Picard, while on federation business, notices Munro kicking some serious tail in one of the holodek’s combat simulation programs, and snatches him and the rest of the old crew back for work on board the Enterprise.
The plot in this sequel is a lot more consistent and believable than that of the first Elite Force, and includes enough interesting, true-to-the-show elements to keep fans enthralled till the end. But Ritual Entertainment did not rely solely on elements of the established Star Trek universe in order to construct Elite Force II’s story, they have taken a few liberties and introduced three new alien species that work their way into the game’s plot. First on the list of fresh interspecies faces is the Attrexians, who reside near the Neutral Zone and have inexplicably fell victim to another alien species known as the Exomorphs, who have declared war on the Attrexians for reasons unknown. The history of the Exomorphs is shrouded in secrecy, even their origin is unknown. You’ll also come across an interesting species called the Idryll, who are widely known for holding a few grudges against the Attrexians.
* * *
While the original Elite Force focused almost entirely on mindless combat, with a slapdash story thrown in, Elite Force II is decidedly more of a Star Trek fans dream when it comes to friendly interaction, interesting exploration, and inside references. The in-game cut-scenes interspersed throughout the experience help to push the story further and between combat missions you’ll get a chance to check out the various locales of Starfleet Academy or chat up crewmembers aboard the Enterprise. The sheer geek-factor of being able to realize the various nuances of the Star Trek universe in all their glory via a mouse and keyboard is off the charts.
Multiplayer offers its own bucket of cool. Deathmatch, CTF, Tag, Control Points, Power Struggle, and Bomb Diffusion modes are all included and spread across 10 different multiplayer maps. As expected, these modes are playable online and via LAN, but also offline via bots! In all, Elite Force 2 is light years (groans!) ahead of its predecessor, offering just about everything you might expect from a high-tier shooter in general, and one aimed at Star Trek geeks in particular. It has enough content to guarantees a prolonged lifespan on your hard drive.
